Mr. Irby was educated at the Military Academy, Woolwich, with the intention of entering the Army, but his health failing him he found it necessary to seek a change of climate, and emigrated to Australia in 1842, landing at Sydney. About twelve months later, he commenced pastoral pursuits, staying for some years on Mr. Wiudeyer's station, and. eventually
