Tindal sailed in the barque " Hamlet " from England, on 4th September, 1843, and landed at Sydney, 17th December, 1843. He estab- lished in 1866, the industry of preserving meat on Appert's principle, and also the manufacture of Liebig's extract of meat, both of which industries have been carried on at Ramornie since that time, by the Australian Meat Company, on a very large scale. Uincacic The family of Tynetiale, Tindale, or Tindal came, it is said, originally from Northumberland, and took their name from a dale there, nearwhicli the ?sorth Tyne rises and crossing the Pict's Wall, joins the South Tyne at Langley Castle, where the family resided. A descendant, Kev. John Tindal, M.A. Exeter College, Oxford, rector of St. Ives, eo. Cornwall, and ricar of Covnwood, co. Devon, w. Elizabeth, daughter of Nicholas Prideaux, of St. Thomas, Barbados, President of Council in that island, and d. 1714, leaving issue, four sons and t^^o daughters. His son and heir, Kev.
