Antony and Cleopatra fled to Egypt. Octavius followed them thither a year later, and when Alexandria had fallen into his hands and they had learned that he would show them no mercy, they both took their own lives. Egypt came under the personal control of Octavius. The latter returned to Italy in the summer of 29, after settling certain affairs in the Orient, and concluding a peace with the Parthians.
