1670 the dagger was transferred from the Treasury of the church of St. Stephen to the Ambrosian Library by the Canon Flaminio Pasgualini, he deposited with the library at the same time a document in which this information is set out.

It may be estimated that the period during which the so-called "ear" dagger continued to be in use extended from about 1460 to the middle of the XVIth century.
