would prove that this Milanese armourer's work had sufficient merit to be known in Spain, where Pompeo held an appointment at the Court of Philip III. Complete suits and parts of suits signed by him are to be seen in the Imperial Armoury of Vienna and in the Royal Armouries of Madrid and of Turin. The Tower of London possesses examples of this type of armour, so does the Wallace Collection. Pompeo often signed his name "PoMpe," and, as a rule, he put this signature at the top of the breastplate—the big M denoting
