The Musée d'Artillerie of Paris (K 56) shows just such another mace (Fig. 1404). In the head are also twenty-two spikes. The gold decoration, though different in treatment, is very possibly the work of the same hand which ornamented the Wallace mace.
The final form of the metal mace, although in this instance an early example of it, is to be seen in the commander's baton now in the Wallace
