Through the influence of ex-Govemor Vroom, of Trenton, Colonel Murphy, of the 10th New Jersey Volunteers, and others, Mr. Kugler was released from confinement, after a detention of eight days, without being required to take the oath of allegiance.

He returned home, where he peacefully resided until early in 1864, when he was stricken down by sickness, and died like a Christian, with his "converse with heaven alone."
