GEORGE F. HOAR

Academy, is a member of the Massachusetts Historical Society, the American Historical Society, the Historic-Genealogical Society, the Virginia Historical Society, and corresponding member of the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences; is a trustee of the Peabody fund; has received the degree of Doctor of Laws from William and Mary, Amherst, Yale, and Harvard Colleges; was elected to the United States Senate as a Republican, to succeed George S. Boutwell; took his seat March 5, 1877, and was reëlected in 1883, 1889, and 1895. His term of service will expire March 3, 1901.
