COMMUNICATION (Cont'd)

Fleet Post Office

Mission: To receive and dispatch all incoming and outgoing mail; maintain directory service for all ships and stations working out of local commands; receive and dispatch all mail for all incoming and outgoing Merchant Marine Ships of FSA; maintain post office at Receiving Barracks, Navy 137, as well as main Fleet Post Office in Fremantle; maintain postal facilities for calling ships and small ships and stations in area. (Money order, registery etc.).

Buildings: No prefabricated structures.

Capacity of Operation: Maintain directory service for 5000 to 8000 men. Maintain distribution and break down of mail for stations and distribute mail for ships in harbor; maintain postal facilities for area and calling ships.

Personnel: 1 officer and 13 enlisted men.




Internal Communication

Mission:To provide ordinary telephone-teletypewriter communication within the organization in the Perth-Fremantle Area.

Buildings: No prefabricated structures.

Equipment: Use facilities of the regular local telephone service.

Capacity: All local services, and long-distance telephone and teletypewriter to continental Australia.

Personnel: 1 Warrant Officer (same man as with Radio Station); 2 enlisted men (same men as with Radio Station).

STORAGE AND SUPPLY
Naval Supply Depot

This major supply facility was developed and is maintained for the purpose of supplying the U.S. Naval Forces afloat and ashore in the Western Australian area. All types of stores, and ship's store stock are provided. Lend-Lease accounting, purchasing, contracting and general procurement for all ships and activities, housing and billeting of Naval Personnel not quartered in Naval Barracks, and employees of the Navy in this area are all handled by this depot.
