DEIKER, JOHANNES CHRISTIAN, born at Wetzlar, Rhenish Prussia, May 27, 1822. Painter of animals and hunts ; pupil of his father Friedrich, a portrait painter, then of the Hauau Academy, and at the Stadel Institute in Frankfort under Jakob Becker ; entered the service of Prince Salms, on whose estates he made the forest and its animal life his special study, and then went for a year to Antwerp.
