LANSAC, ÉMILE (FRANÇOIS) DE, born at Tulle (Corrèze), Oct. 1, 1803. History and genre painter, pupil of Langlois and Ary Scheffer; made a special study of horses, and painted several equestrian portraits. Medals: 3d class, 1836; 2d class, 1838. LANSIL, WALTER FRANKLIN, born in Bangor, Me., March 30, 1846. Marine painter, pupil in Bangor of J. P. Hardy. Member Boston Art Club, 1877. Medals: 1878, 1881, 1884. Judge of awards of fine arts for Dominion of Canada, St. John, New Brunswick, 1883. Visited Europe in 1884, and studied in Paris, Venice, and Holland. Studio in Boston. LANSYER, EMMANUEL, born in Ile-de-Bouin (Vendée), Feb. 18, 1835. Landscape and marine painter, pupil of Courbet, Violet-le-duc, and Harpignies; usually paints views of Brittany and the neighbourhood of Bordeaux. A good draughtsman and colourist. Medals: 1865, 1869; 3d class, 1873; L. of Honour, 1881.
