avian 'ee-vi-sn, 'sevi-an n. a batelike type of aeroplane de- velopt by Clement Ader, a French electrician, which, as a result of its performance of October g, 1890, is noted for being the first power^driven, man^carrying aeroplane ever to attain flight.

balance 'bsetens n. a balanced condition; a state of equi- librium; equipoise.
