was promoted to this see on the translation of Dr. Mavvson to Ely. He was nominated 15th and elected 3'2nd March 1754, and received the royal assent on the 25th of the same month. He was confirmed on the 30th and consecrated 31st March '^'^ : the tempo- ralities were restored to him 2nd April -9. He died in Sept. 1797. 1798 John Buckxer, LL.D., was nominated to this see 2nd 38Geo.lll. Oct. 1797, elected on the 27th, and the royal assent to his election given on the 28th of the same month. He was confirmed 28th Feb., consecrated 4th March 'o, and the temporalities were restored to him 13th March 1798-51. He died 2nd May 1824, setat. 90. 1824 Robert James Carr was nominated 8th May 1824, 5 Geo. TV. elected on the 24th, and received the royal assent to his election on the 25th of the same month. He was confirmed 4th June, consecrated on the 6th^'^, and the temporalities were restored to him loth June. He was translated to Worcester in Sept. 1 83 1 . 1831 Edward Maltby was elected 26th Sept. 1831. The I Will. IV. royal assent to his election was given on the 27 th of the same month. He was confirmed 1st Oct., conse- crated 2nd Oct.-5'5, and the temporalities were restored 3rd Oct. He was translated to Durham in 1836, 1836 William Otter was elected 14th Sept. 1836. The 7 Will. IV. royal assent to his election was given on the 15th of the same month. He was confirmed ist Oct.^^, con- secrated the next day, and the temporalities were re- stored to him 5th Oct. He died 20th Aug. 1840, aged 72. 1840 Philip Nicholas Shuttleworth was elected 14th 4 Vict. Sept. 1 840 ; the royal assent to his election was given 15th, he was confirmed on the 19th, consecrated 20th Sept.3, and the temporalities were restored to him 6th Oct. He died 7th Jan. 1 842, at the episcopal palace, Chichester.
