CHANCELLORS. 469 1591 Thomas Sackvile, lord BucJchurst, was elected 17th Dec. He died earl of Dorset 19th April 1608. 1608 Richard Bancroft, archbishop of Canterbury, was elected 22nd April. He died 2nd Nov. 16 10. 1610 Thomas Egerton_, baron of Ellesmere, lord chancellor of England, was elected 3rd Nov., and installed on the loth of the same month. He resigned 24th Jan. 16 1 6. 1616 William Herbert, earl of Pembroke^ knight of the Garter^ lord chamberlain of the household, was elected 29th Jan. He died loth April 1630. 1630 William Laud, bishop of London^ was elected 12th April, and confirmed on the 28th of the same month. He resigned the chancellorship 22nd June 1641. 1641 Philip Herbert, earl of Pembroke and Montgomery^ was elected ist July, and installed on the 8th of the same month. He was deprived in 1643. 1643 William Seymour, marquis of Hertford^ was elected 24th Oct., and installed on the 31st of the same month. 1647 Philip Herbert, earl of Pembroke and Montgomery, restored by authority of Parliament 2nd March, and died 23rd Jan. 1649. Void till Jan. 1 650. 1650-51 Oliver Cromwell was elected 1st Jan. He re- signed 3rd July 1657. 1657 Richard Cromwell was elected 1 8th July. Ho was installed on the 29th of the same month. He resigned 8th May 1660. 1660 William Seymoir, marquis of Hertford^ restored 26th May. He died duke of Somerset 24th Oct. following. Sir Edward HvDt;, knight, lord chancellor of England .^ was elected 27th Oct., and installed 15th Nov. fol- lowing. He resigned 7th Dec. 1667, being then carl of Clarendon. 1667 (i I L B K R r Sh k l do n', archbishop of Canterbury ^ was elected 20th l)(jc., but never sw(jrn or installed. Ho resigned all interest therein ^ist July 1669.
