BISHOPS. 59 Walter de Legh or Lyghe, prior of Worcester^ was chosen 7th Dec. 1373, and obtained the royal assent on the 24th of that month 6. The election however was set aside by the Pope, and 1375 Henry Wakefield ^7^ archdeacon of Canterbury , was 49Edw.lll. appointed by papal bull, dated 12th Sept. 1375^^. He made his profession of obedience 3rd Oct. 1375, and the temporalities were restored to him 14th Oct.^^ He was consecrated at Hatfield on the 28th of the same month ^0. He died 3rd March 1394-5 at Blockley in his return from parliament, and was buried in his own cathedral. The license to elect on the death of bishop Wakefield is dated 3rd April 1395^^. John Green was elected, and the royal assent was given to his election 4th May 1395^-, but it was set aside by the Pope^^. 1396 TiDEMAN DE WiNCHCOMB, MsJiop of Llandaff, was 19 Ric. II. translated to this see 25th Jan. 1395—6 by the Pope. The custody of the temporalities was granted to him 21st July J396K He died loth June 1401^^. The license to elect on the death of Tideman deWinchcomb bears date 20th June 1401^^. 140 1 Richard Clifford, archdeacon of Canterbury and dean 1 Hen. IV. of York, (who had been nominated by the Pope to the see of Bath and Wells, but to whom the King had refused restitution of the temporalities,) was elected to this see 27th June 1401, and confirmed by the Pope^s bull dated i9th Aug. 1401. He had the temporalities restored to him 21st Sept. 1401^7^ and ^ Pat. 47 Edw. III. p. 2. m. 4. 62 Pat. 18 Ric. II. p. 2. m. 15. •^7 He was elected to Ely in ^-^ Walsingham, p. 357.
