The charter of foundation of this deanery by king Henry the Eighth bears date 24th Jan. 154 1—2. Henuy Holbeach, alias Raxds, the last prior, was constituted the first dean by the charter, dated as above ; and in 1544 he was made bishop of Ro- chester"^. John Barlow, A.M., was installed 20th June 1544, and deprived in Feb. 1553. Philip Hawfoud alias Ballard, last abbot o/Ecesham, was collated ist March 1553-4, and died in 1557. Seth Holland, A.M., warden of All Souls, Oxford, was installed 12th Aug. 1557, and deprived in Oct. John Peddek, S.T.13., had the Queen's patent for this deanery, dated ist Jan. 1559-60.
