In 1904 one observer, taking serious note of all such German prophecies and desires wrote an envisioned analysis in which he forewarned that "the doctrine of Germanism may quite well become a national ideal and kindle a very dangerous spirit. For Anglo-Saxondom the lesson it teaches is obvious. Readiness is all. Let England and the United States be prepared at all times successfully to meet the Teutonic onrush if ever it should come."17
