The greatest volume of new building construction occurs in the spring months. Note in 1908 the effect of the 1907 panic. The peak in 1904 represents the Baltimore fire and that in 1906 the San Francisco fire. It would have been better to show the upper portion of the San Francisco peak by bending horizontally that portion which could not be shown vertically to the scale of this chart. See also Fig. 111
