Babcock, George Henry, manufacturer, business president, financier, was born Oct. 25, 1852, in Watertown, N.Y. His father founded the great manufacturing business of the H. H. Babcock company. In 1873 he was admitted as a partner in his father's business; and is now president and treasurer of the H. H. Babcock company of Watertown, N.Y. He is connected with some of the largest financial institutions of his city; is a director of the Watertown savings bank; and president of the Watertown gas light company. Babcock, George Herman, manufacturer, inventor, philanthropist, was born Jan. 17, 1832. The Babcock and Wilcox boilers have been the most extensively built and sold of all devices of this nature. Large works for their production have been built in Elizabeth, N.J. Works have also been established in the city of Glasgow, from which the markets of the world are supplied. He died Dec. 20, 1894, near Otsego, N.Y.

Babcock, Hampton C, soldier, was born in York. In 1813 he enlisted in the twentyfirst regiment United States infantry and the same year was made third lieutenant in the fifteenth regiment United States infantry. In 1814 he was promoted to second lieutenant; and the same year was given the rank of first lieutenant. He served at various posts; and was honorably discharged in 1815.
