was born Dec. 12, 1834, in Canaan, N.B. In 1867 he was appointed principal of the Augusta institute, Ga.; and in 1868 was transferred to Richmond, Va., as president of an training of colored institution for the preachers and teachers. He is the author of Thirty Years' Labor of Reminiscences Among the Colored People of the South. He died in 1899 in Richmond, Va.
Corey, William Ellis, business president, was bom in 1866 in Pennsylvania. He is the inventor of the Carnegie reforged armor. He is president of the Carnegie steel company; and president of the Federal steel corporation. Corker, Stephen A., congressman, was bom in Georgia. He was elected a representative for the term of 1869-71 to the forty-first congress from Georgia. His election was unsuccessfully contested, but he did not take his seat until Jan. 24, 1871. He died in Waynesboro, Ga. Corlet, Elijah, educator, theologian, was born in 1611 in London, England. He taught the grmmar school in Cambridge for fortysix years. Corlett, William Thomas, physician, surgeon, author, was born April 15, 1854, in Orange, Ohio. Since 1885 he has been professor of Dermatology at the Western reserve university of Cleveland, Ohio. He is the author of Treatise on the Acute Infectious Exanthemata. Corlett, William W., lawyer, congressman, was born April 10, 1842, in Concord, Ohio. He was appointed a member of the council in the Wyoming territorial assembly in 1871 and was prosecuting attorney for Laramie county in 1872, 1873 and 1875. In 1877-79 he was a territorial delegate from Wyoming to the forty-fifth congress as a republican. Corley, Manuel Simeon, merchant, legislator, congressman, was bom Feb. 10, 1823, in Lexington county, S.C. In 1854-56 he was editor and owner of the South Carolina
Temperance Standard. In
his youth he was apprenticed to learn the tailor's trade, and became a successful merchant tailor of Lexington, S.C. In 1868 he was a member of the South Carolina Constitutional convention, and in 1867-69 he was a representative to the fortieth congress. He has been United States treasury agent; chief of South Carolina bureau of agriculture statistics; and treasurer of his county. Corliss, Augustus Whittemore, soldier, was born March 25, 1837, in Yarmouth, Maine. He served in the civil war as lieutenant-colonel in the Rhode Island cavalry. He invented many ingenious devices, among which is a machine for cutting the of bevel-wheels, an improved boiler, with condensing apparatus for marine-engines, and pumping-engines for the water works. In 1856 the Corliss steam engine company was incorporated at Providence, R. He was a I., and he was made president.

Corn, Samuel Thompson, lawyer, jurist, was born Oct. 8, 1840, in Nicholasville, Ky. Untiri886 he practiced law in C'arbondale, 111.; and was then appointed one of the justices of the supreme court of the territory of Wyoming, which position he filled until Wyoming assumed statehood in 1890. In 18961904 he was an associate justice of the state supreme court of Wyoming; and the last year of his term was chief justice. Since 1904 he has practiced law in Cheyenne,
