president, author, was bom Feb. 13, 1794, in Middleburg, Va. He was president of Mercer university of Georgia in 1844-56. He was the author of Manual of Theology; Elements of Moral Science; Evidences of Christianity; and English Grammar. He died June 11, 1884, in Haynesville, Ala. Daggett, Aaron Simon, soldier, author, was born June 14, 1837, in Greene Corner, Maine. He served through the civil war; and received the rank of major and lieutenant-colonel; and subsequently retired in 1902 with the rank of brigadier-general. He is the author of America in the China Relief
Expedition. Daggett, David, educator, lawyer, jurist, United States senator, was bom Dec. 31, 1764, in Attleborough, Mass. He was state's attorney and mayor of New Haven; and frequently a member of the legislature and member of the council. He served as a presidential elector on several occasions; and in 1813-19 he was United States senator from Connecticut. In 1826-33 he was a judge of the supreme court of the state; and was chief judge in 1832-34. He died April 12, 1851, in New Haven, Conn. Daggett, Mrs. Mary Stewart, author, was born May 30, 1856, in Morristown, Ohio. She is the author of The Broad Isle; and Mariposilla.

Conn. Daggett, Oliver Ellsworth, educator, clergyman, author, poet, was born on Jan. 14, 1810, in New Haven, Conn. He assisted in compiling a book of psalms and hymns; and left a small volume of poems, printed posthumously. He died Sept. 1, 1880, in Hartford. Daggett, Rollin M., journalist, diplomat, congressman, was born in 1831 in Richville, N.Y. In 1862 he removed to Virginia City, Nev. was elected to the territorial council in 1863; and was a presidential elector in 1876. In 1879-81 he was a representative from Nevada to the forty-sixth congress. In 1883-1901 he was United States minister to the Hawaiian Islands. He died Nov. 13, 1901, in Hawaii. Daggett, Hufus, soldier, was born in New York. In 1861 he was first lieutenant in the fourteenth regiment New York volunteer infantry; and in 1865 was brevetted briga;
dier-general of volunteers.

Dahle, Herman B., merchant, banker, congressman, was born on March 30, 1855, in Daleyville, Wis. In 1877 he commenced business with his father as a dealer in general merchandise at
Mount Vernon, Wis.; and in 1887 moved to Mount Horeb, his present home. In 1891 he took his brother as a partner, establishing the firm of Dahle brothers. In 1901 he established the Mount lioreb bank; and is now president of that institution. In 1899-1903 he was a representative from Wiscnosin to the fifty-sixth and fifty-seventh congresses as a, republican.
