Dixon, Joseph Moore, lawyer, congressman, United States senator, was bom July 31, 1867, in Snowcamp, N.C. In 1894-97 he was prosecuting attorney of Missouri county, Montana; and in 1900-03 was a member of the Montana state legislature. In 1903-07 he was a republican representative from Montana to the fifty-eighth and fifty-ninth congresses. In 1907 he becanie a member of the United States senate for the term ending in 1913. Dixon, Lincoln, lawyer, congressman, was born Feb. 9, 1860, in Vernon, Ind. In 1880 he graduated from the Indiana state university. In 1884-93 he was prosecuting attorney; and for many years was a member of the democratic state committee. In 1905-11 he was a representative from Indiana to the fifty-ninth, sixtieth and sjxty-first congresses as a democrat. Dixon, Luthei S., jurist. He moved to the territory of Wisconsin; and was appointed a justice of the United States court for the territory of Wisconsin. He died in Wisconsin.

Dixon, Nathan Fellows, lawyer, United States senator, was born in 1774 in Plainfield, Conn. In 1813 he was elected a member of the general assembly of that state; and continued to serve in that capacity for seventeen years. In 1839-43 he was United States senator. He died Jan. 39, 1843, in Washington, D.C. Dixon, Nathan Fellows, lawyer, congressman, was born May 1, 1813, in Westerly. E.I. He was elected to the general assembly of his state in 1851, and with the exception of two years held the oflBce until 1859. In 1849-51 and 1863-71 he was a representative from Rhode Island to the thirty-first, thirty-eighth, thirty-ninth, fortieth and fortyfirst congresses. He died Nov. 8, 1897, in Albany, N.Y. Dixon, Nathan Fellows, lawyer, congressman, United States senator, was bom Aug. 38, 1847, in Westerly, R.I. In 1877-84 he was United States district attorney for the district of Rhode Island. In 1883-85 he was a representative from Rhode Island to the forty-eighth congress to fill a vacancy; and in 1889-95 he was United States senator. He died Nov. 3, 1897, in Westerly, R.I. Dixon, Roland Burrage, educator, scientist, was bom Nov. 6, 1875, in Worcester, Mass. Since 1906 he has been assistant professor of anthropology at Harvard college. He is a fellow of the American association for the advancement of science. Dixon, Sam H., author. He published a collection of poems with biographies entitled Poets and Poetry of Texas. He died in Texas. Dixon, Samuel Gibson, president of Academy of natural sciences of Philadelphia, was

born March 33, 1851, in Philadelphia, Pa. He graduated from the Mantua academy and from the Mercantile college; in 1877 was admitted to the bar; and in 1886 graduated in medicine from the university of Pennsylvania. In 1880 he became professor of bacteriology and microscopical technology at the Academy of natural sciences of Philadelphia;

was made curator in 1891; executive curator in 1893; and president in 1896. In 1898 he was a member of the board of public education of Philadelphia, Pa. He is vicepresident of the Ludwick institute of Philadelphia; vice-president of the anti-tuberculosis society of Pennsylvania; and a member of the American philosophical society and various other medical and scientific associations. Since 1896 he has been president of the Academy of natural sciences of Philadelphia, Pa.; since 1905 has been commissioner of health of Pennsylvania; and resides in Ardmore, Pa. Dixon, Mrs. Susan Bullitt, author, was born Feb. 30, 1839, in Oxmoor, Ky. She was the wife of the late Archibald Dixon, United States senator and author of Repeal of the Missouri Compromise. She was the author of The True History of the Missouri Compromise and Its Repeal. She died in 1907 in Danville, Ky. Dixon, Thomas, lawyer, lecturer, legislator, author, was bom Jan. 11, 1864, in Shelby, N.C. In 1884-86 he was a member of the North Carolina state legislature. He then entered the baptist ministry. He is the author of Living Problems in Religion and Social Science; Sermons on Ingersoll; and The Failure of Protestantism in New York; and The Leopard's Spots, a novel. Dixon, William Wirt, lawyer, congressman, was born June 3, 1838, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a member of the legislative assembly of Montana territory in 1871-73; and was a member of the constitutional conventions of Montana of 1884 and 1889. In 1S91-93 he was a representative from Montana to the fifty-second congress as a democrat.
