He is a Swedish scholar who came to the United States in 1861; served two years in the federal army as officer, and afterwards seven years in the Swedish regular army. He has been professor in Swedish and American universities, rector of the university of Gothenburg, Sweden, and is now professor of linguistic science and Sanskrit, and dean of the graduate school, in the university of Nebraska. Edmands, J. Wiley, congressman, was bom March 1, 1809, in Boston, Mass. In 1853-55 he was a representative from Massachusetts to the thirty-third congress. He founded a public library at Newton, Mass. He died Jan. 1, 1877, in Newton, Mass.
