He was the author of The Pastor's Hand-Book; Bible PrayerBook; The Voyage of Life; Manhood, its Duties and Responsibilities; Promise and Training of Childhood; Words in Earnest; The Baptist Layman's Book; The Sabbath; The Christian Apostolate; and Life of John Foster. She attained a national reputation as an actress; and played in the principal cities of the United States. She died in 1866.

Ewart, Hamilton Glover, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Oct. 23, 1849, in CoHe was appointed by Chief lumbia, S.C. Justice Waite register in bankruptcy for the ninth congressional district; and was twice elected mayor of Hendersonville. He was district elector on the Hayes ticket in 1876; and received the nomination for congress in 1884. He was elected to the lower house of the legislature in 1886. district of North Carolina. Ewart, Thomas West,- lawyer, was bom Feb. 27, 1816, in Grand View, Ohio. He was a member of the convention that formed the

present constitution of Ohio. He was president of the Ohio baptist state convention; and vice-president of the American baptist missionary union. He died Oct. 8, 1881, in Granville, Ohio.

He is a lawyer of Chicago; president and dean of Kent college of law in Chicago; and is also an expert in microscopy and in forgeries. He is the author of Blackwell on Tax Titles; Treatise on the Law of Fixtures; Essentials of the Law; Manual of Medical Jurisprudence; and other works. Ewell, Richard Stoddert, soldier, was born Feb. 18, 1817, in Georgetown, D.C. During the civil war he served in the confederate army; was promoted to major-general; and was one of the two generals at Winchester and Kettle Run.
