On Ju n e 39, 1899, the name of the Mosaic Club was changed to the Wednesday Club, o f Blooms burg. The club meets weekly from September to Ju n e, and papers on his torical subjects are read by the members. In 1907 (his club erected a suitable marker on the site o f Fort McClure on the Hughes farm, and dedicated it with appropriate exe r cises on .April lOth. The n u rk cr was unveiled hy Miss .McClure, a direct descendant o f M aj. Jam es M cClure, a fte r whom the fort w as named. In the afternoon a public meeting w as held in the courthouse, and among the exercises w as an a<ldress delivered by Rev. .A. J . P. M c Clure, a great-gramlson o f M ajor McClure. The object o f this society Is the preservation o f that spirit o f liberty which animated the fathers and mothers of the .American Revolu tion. T he present regent is M iss S . Columbia County lliiio r ie a l Society The first steps fo r the fonnation o f this society were taken M ay 9, 19 14, at a meeting held in the courthouse at Bloomsbura, which was called by the officers o f Fort M cClure Chapter, 1). A . R . T he meeting was called to order by Jam es C . Brow n, who made a few remarks and then introduced Dr. S . P . H eil man, of Lebanon County, secretary of the Pennsylvania State Federation o f Historical Societies. Dr. Heilman gave a practical talk on his experiences in the sixteen years he had been in the work. H is address was fu ll of hopeful suggestions and o f great benefit to the organization. W illiam W. Evans moved a vote o f thanks be given Dr. Heilman, seconded by Professor Hartline and carried unani mously. Fort McClure Chapter presented to M r. Brown a copy o f a constitution and by-law s which they thought would fill the needs of the proposed Columbia County Historical Society. The constitution and by-laws were read and accepted and ordered printed. George Parke, rqircsenting J . H . Beers & Co., publishers. Chicago. HI., gave a short address, telling o f his w ork along historical lines in Columbia County, and presented one copy o f this H isto iy o f Columbia County to the society, also many interesting photographs he had made, anil local nutcrial that would be very valuable.
