Tlte first w ife died in 1835* and M r. Poe married for his second w ife Leah Beam Miller, by whom he had two children* Polly and Phoehc. PoUy married John Wolf* of* Mifflin township* and Pitoebe married Samuel Turnbach. o f biackcreek. George Poc died unmarried at the age o f fifty-five, and is buried in Mifflinville. Stephen l^oc is living* in feeble health* with his son Oiarlcs» in Catawissa. A very industrious and thrifty man. Joseph Poe w as also strictly just in all his dealings. In 1838 he bought two farm s above Orange ville* one o f i(io acres and the other o f 140 acres. T he tow*nship line divided them, one being in Fishingereek township and the other in Orange township. T o Catherine he gave the 160-acre farm and to M aria the 140 acres. H e and his second w ife were devout members of the German Lutheran Church. H is death occurred in 1880. Joseph Poe had two sisters: Mar>' married Benjamin I.cvan and died at Freeport, III. T h e other sister married .A. M aurey and died in Conyngliam* Pa.* at the age o f ninety-five y e a rs; she left one son, David. Catherine Poc was but seventeen when her mother died, and she took c h a ^ c o f her brothers and sisters and kept house for her father. A fte r her father’s second marriage she married Nathan Fleekenstine* Dec. 27* 1837. the ceremony being performed by Rev. D . S . Tobias, of the Reform ed Church. They first resided wdth Nathan's father, Jacob* at Summer Hill* but later moved to the farm given them by Joseph I ’oe. There they lived for thirty-five years and raised a fam ily of fo u r boys and four g irls: Joseph, Jacob W... William* George S., Sarah M., Margaret* M ary C. and Clara .Agnes. In addition to these children M r. and M rs. Fleekenstine brought up four orphans: Jaco b Geisinger, Samuel Trum p, Andrew Lunger and Betsey Steiner (w ho married E lijah Everett and was left a widow with two sons). A fte r their children had grow^n M r. and M rs. Fleekenstine moved to Orangeville* where they resided un til they died. T hey also made a home for an
old lady* Catharine Slaugh* a native o f Bingcnondhe-Rhine* who lived with them until her death. Nathan Fleekenstine w as a great hunter and fishcm un and his larder was alw ays filled vith the finest game. H e had perfect health until a short time before his death* when his eye sight failed him and he could not take his usual exercise. H e w as greatly beloved by the villagers and children and w as a great worker in the church. H is wife* Catherine* died Ju ly 1^, 1901* and he passed aw ay N ov. 13* 1905. She lived to be eighty-four years* seven months, six days old, and he just lacked ten days o f being ninety years of age. Both are buried in the Laurel H ill cemeter>* at Orangeville. In t85p M a i^ r c t Fleekenstine married Samuel Hidlay* a prosperous farm er o f Centre township* and to them were bom children as follow s: ( 1 ) Joseph* a deputy sheriff* of Bloomsburg, married Sadie G irard, and has three childrai, Ruth, R ay and M argaret. (2) William H.* twin to Joseph* now cashier of the Bloomsburg National Bank, married Ada Conner and has three children, Eugene, Clair and Harold. ( 3 ) Andrew* Curtin married M ary Crcacy and they have two children: Brucc, a clerk in W ilkcs-Barrc* and Lillian* a trained nurse, in Philadelphia. (4 ) Minnie married Clarence Drum* a prominent farmer and stock raiser o f Briarcrcek township, and they have eight children* Franklin, the oldest, now* attending the Bloomsburg State Normal school. ( 5 ) Charles lives in Big H om, Wyo. (6 ) Margaret* married to Edw ard Kicliard, lives in N ewberry, P a .; they have two chil dren, Donald and Miriam. ( 7 ) ElizalKth, who is a trained nurse* lives in New' Y ork State. (8 ) Della married John Caine* o f Beach Haven, and had one son, Hidlay. Sh e died A pril 4, 19 H, at the age o f forty-four. (9) Mamie married Hubert H annan, o f Milton. Pa.* and they have three children: Harr>*, in the United States n a v y; and Collins and Bruce* at home. Joseph Fleekenstine enlisted in the 16th Pennsylvania Cavalr)* in 1862* and served for three years lacking nine days. H e had many narrow escapes from death but passed through many engagements unscathed, finally being mustered out after the surrender, and returned to the home of his parents, w*hcre he still lives. Jacob W . Fleekenstine married Sarah Slebbins, o f N ew Y o rk, and they have six children: to u ra married Elm er Thompson and has two children, Paul and Elmer* J r .; the parents arc
