An American poet and journalist; b. at CatskiU; has passed much of his active life in the Mississippi Valley ; was in 1860 one of the most promising poets of the West, who could set type as well as make rhymes; his poems were chiefly pub- lished in the Grand River Eagle/' at Grand Rapids, Mich., where he resided for many years ; is now (1886) on the editorial staff of the Detroit Post and Tribune," and a distinguished bicycle journalist, writing for the "Outing/' Boston, etc.
