own accompaniment at a charitable concert
at the age of 6. Studied in Paris under
Madame Marchesi, and made her stage debut
Oct 15, 1887, as Gilda in Rigoletto at
the Theatre de la Monnaie, Brussels, appear-
ed in Lucia at Covent Garden London in
1888, played Ophelia at Paris Grand Opera
1889, and Juliet in London. Bemberg
specially wrote for her Elaine, which was
produced in London in 1892. She appeared
in Pagliacci at Covent Garden in 1893, and
in the Handel Festival of 1894. Has taken
a prominent part in opera festivals in Eng-
land, visited America, and toured her native
Australia in 1903. m. 1882, Charles, y. s.(?)
of Sir Andrew Armstrong. Resides in London.
Has a world-wide fame as a singer, and is
the greatest operatic soprano in the Bri-
tish Empire.
