WILLIAM McKINLEY.
A clear trace of the McKin-leys comes all the way
down from 1547 in which year they were known in
Scot-land. The first of them in this land made a home at
York, Penn-syl-va-ni-a, where his son Da-vid, great grand
fa-ther of the Pres-i-dent was born in 1755. This Da-vid
took part in the "War of In-de-pen-dence." His son
James went to O-hi-o in 1809 when Will-iam, fa-ther of
the Pres-i-dent was not quite two years old. This Will-iam
grew up in the West and found a wife in Nan-cy
All-i-son, of Scotch-Dutch stock, that came to A-mer-i-ca
with Will-iam Penn. The grand fa-ther of this wife
was a stern man who thought we must be free come what
might. He took part in the Rev-o-lu-tion.
