New Zealand Ribes?

Native Name:—Mako-Mako.

This is a very beautiful shrub or small tree, which springs up on the edge of clearings and at the side of roads after the trees in the forest are felled. It is curious that it is not seen before, but as soon as light and air are let in, it covers the ground. It is found in great quantities throughout the Islands, but especially at the side of the coach roads in the South. The head of flowers of all shades from crimson to white, and the pink under the leaves give it a very handsome appearance. Flowers from October to January. Wai-wera.
