Scarlet Mistletoe.

Native Name:—Pirita.

This is a most beautiful plant, growing principally in the forests near Nelson in Spring, when it blossoms. The Beech or Fagus woods are red with it; it hangs in large bunches from the trees and covers the ground with the flowers which have dropt. It also grows on Metrosideros tomentosa, near Lake Waikara (Colenso). On Lake Station and on the banks of lovely Lake Roto-iti it is very abundant. The shape of the flower is very peculiar, and differs very much from Loranthus Adamsii, which is already figured in this book. It flowers in January. Roto-iti.
