midnight immediately precedes the dawn; so, precisely when the soul's night is darkest and coldest does its daybreak commence; and as beneath the sun's risen splendour the butterfly rises from the chrysalis,

'Dipt in the richest tincture of the skies;'

so, when the Sun of Righteousness has risen in the heart, does the liberated spirit emerge from captivity, and soar on expansive wings far above the level of its former activity and enjoyments, discharging higher offices and realising purer delights.
