In the 6th century came Boethius (475-525), whose 'De musica' has been a mine for students ever since, albeit a somewhat treacherous one.
At intervals in later centuries other writers appear, mostly Byzantines, whose works furnish useful points. The long roll ends with Manuel Bryennios (c. 1370), whose 'Harmonics' is really a compend of extracts from earlier writers, often of great value.
