Our fard Lord the King considering the Pre- ' miifes, and that if People of the King's Amity be ' feared and difcouraged to freight the Ships and ' VefTels of the King's Enemies and Adverfaries, their ' Navy in Time to come will he decreafed and di- 6 rr.inifhed, and the Navy of the King's Subjects and ' Friends increafed and inlarged;" ' by the Advice and Aflent aforefaid, and at the fpecial Requeft of the faid Commons, to efchevv the Milchiefs aforefaid, hath ordained by Authority of the faid Parliament, That all Letters of Safe Conduct to be granted to the King's Enemies and Adverfaries, or any other People whatfoever, fhall be inrolled in the Chancery of our faid Lord the King of Record, before that any fuch Letters fhall be in any wife delivered to them to whom the fame Letters fhall be granted ; (2) and that all fuch Letters of Safe Conduct here- after to be granted, not inrolled of Record in the faid Chancery, before the Delivery to them to be made in the Manner as is faid, fhall be void, and of no Force nor Effect. " III. And moreover, if hereafter any Goods or Merchandifes be taken by the faid Subjects of our Lord the King upon the Sea, or the Coafts of the fame, charged in any Ship or other Vefiel, which is belonging to the Enemies or Adverfaries of our Lord the King for the time being, not having fufficient Letters of Safe Conduct inrolled in the Form afore- faid, that they which fo fhall take the fame Goods and Merchandiles fhall them enjoy without any Reftitution thereof to be made in any wife, to what- foever Perfon the fame Goods and Merchandifes fo taken, at the Time of the taking of the fame, or before, were belonging. ' IV. Provided always, That the Subjects of our Lord the King, taking luch Ships charged with Mer- chandifes, not having nor fhewing fuch Letters of Safe Conduct within the fame Ships at the Time of the faid taking, and bringing them by Force to a certain Port or Place within the faid Realm, fhall not be endamaged in their Perfon nor Goods for fuch taking, if they be ready to make fuJl Reftitution of the fame Ships and Merchandifes, within reafonable Time, after that full Knowledge is made to them of fufficient Letters of Safe Conduct for the fame Ships and Mer- chandifes, inrciled in the faid Chancery of Record before the taking of then.
