A Pillar to be Time to receive and recover the fame by A6lion at Law, and whofe Receipt fliall be a good Difcharge to fuch Owners, or others interefted ; and who is hereby appointed to receive and pay, and be accountable for the feme, according to fuch Diredlions as fhall from Time to Time be given him by the faid Lord Mayor Aldermen and Commons : (4) And the Money fo raifed, fhall be wholly imployed towards Payment and Satisfaftion of fuch Houfes and Ground as fhall be converted into Streets, Pallages, Markets, and other publick Places aforefaid: (5) And fuch Satisfadlion fo given, or tendred and refufed, as aforefaid, fhall di- veft the Propriety, Eftate and Intereft of the refpedive Owners, and others having Intereft of and in fuch Parcels of Ground fo to be taken and imployed for the Ufes aforefaid, by Virtue of this Aft: Which fliall be and are hereby aftually fettled and invefted in the faid Lord Mayor, Commonalty and Citizens of the City of London, and their Succeflbrs, in like Manner as other the common Streets and Highways within the faid City. XX V II. And in Cafe any Controverfies or Differences fhall happen to arife between feveral Perfons th^t fhall claim feveral Eftates or InterefVs into or out of any Grounds to be fold by the faid Mayor, Aldermen and Common Council, or by them to be taken and difpofed of by Virtue and in Purfuance of this Aft to and for the Ufes aforefaid ; that then the Juftices of the Courts of King's Bench and Common Pleas, and Barons of the Coif of the Exchequer for the Time being, or any three or more of them, fhall be and are hereby authorized to hear, and finally to ordsr and determine the fame in a fummary Way of Proceeding and without the Formalities or ordinary Courfe of Proceedings ufed in any the faid Courts, to order and award fuch Diftribution to be made of the Money thereby arifmg, for the fatisfying of fuch feveral Interefts and Claims as to them fhall feem jufl and reafonable, according to the refpeftive Eftate or Eftates, Title qr Interefts of the Perfon or Perfons making Claim thereunto; according to which Order and Diftribution to be made and appointed by the ftid Juftices and Barons, or any three or more of them, the faid Purchafe- Money fhall be fatisfied and paid by die faid Chamberlain to the faid feveral Perfons refpeftively. ' XXVIII. And that the faid Citizens and their SuccefTors for all the Time to come, may retain the Me- ' morial of fo fad a Defolation, and refleft ferioufly upon their manifold Iniquities, which are the unhappy pointed a Day of c Qgufes of fuch Judgments;' (2) Be it further enafted. That the fecond Day o[ September (unlefs the the c'ity'yearl'y ^^^^ happen to be Sunday, and if fo, then the next Day following) be yearly for ever hereafter obferved as, a Day of publick Fafting and Humiliation within the faid City and Liberties thereof, to implore the Mer- cies of Almighty God upon the faid City, to make devout Prayer and Supplication unto him, to divert the like Calamity for the Time to come. XXIX. And the better to preferve the Memory of this dreadful Vifitation, Be it further enafted, That fet up in Memo- a Column or Pillar of Brafs or Stone, be erefted on, or as near unto, the Place where the faid Fire fo un- ly of the Fire, happily began, as conveniently may be, in perpetual Remembrance thereof, with fuch Infcription thereon> as hereafter by the Mayor and Court of Alermen in that Behalf be direfted. Tender of Mo- XXX. And be it enafted, and it is hereby enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That all Tender of Mo- ney at j^^f- ney or Payment thereof, which by any Bonds, Covenants or other Obligations or AfTurance whatfoever- .""f the Royal ought to be made in the late Affurance-Office, or in any other Fhce on the ^te Roya/ Exchange, Londony. fhall or may be made at or in the prefent Affurance-Office in GreJJiam-houfe ; and fhall be as valid and legal to all Intents and Purpofes, and difcharge the Obligor as fully and amply, as if they had been made in the firft intended Place on the faid Royal Exchange. XXXI. And it is hereby further enafted. That the Parifh Churches to be rebuilded within the faid City of London, in Lieu of thofe which were demoliftied by the late Fire, fhall not exceed the Number of thirty- nine ; which fhall be fet out and appointed by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lord Archbifhop of Canterbury, and the Biftiop of London for the Time being. XXXII. Provided alfo, and be it enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That the Sites and Materials of fuch Churches as by this Bill are not intended to be rebuilt, together with the Church-yards belonging to fuch Churches, fhall be and are hereby vefted in the Lord Mayor and Aldermen of the City of London for the Time being ; to the End fo much of the faid Ground as fhall not upon the rebuilding of the faid City, be laid into the Streets, be fold and difpofed of by the faid Lord Mayor and Aldermen, or the major Part of them for the Time being, with the Confent of the Archbifhop o( Canterbury, and Bifliop of London for the Time being ; (z) and the Money raifed by fuch Sale fhall be by the faid Mayor and Aldermen, or the major Part of them, with the Confent of the faid Archbifhop and Bifhop, difpofed of and employed for and towards the rebuilding of fuch Parifh Churches as by this Aft are intended to be rebuilt, and for no other Life orPurpofe whatfoever. XXXIII. Provided always, That any Thing in this Aft contained, fhall not extend or be taken to veft. or fetde the Church of St. Paul, and St. Faiths, or any Part thereof, or the Church of St. Gregory s by Sti Pant's, or any of them, or the Church-yards to any of them belonging or appertaining, in the Mayor, Al- dermen and Commons of the City of London, or any of them ; any Thing in this Aft notwithftanding. XXXIV. And be it enafted. That for the preventing Inundations, and for Eafinefs of Afcent, the Street called Thames-Street, and all the Ground between the faid Street and the River of Thames, fhall be raifed and made higher by three Foot at the leaft above the Surface of the Ground as now it lieth. XXXV. Provided alfo, and it is hereby further enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That no Houfe, Outhoufe or other Building whatfoever (Cranes and Sheds .*br prefent Ufe only excepted) fliall be built or erefted within the Diftance of forty Foot of fuch Part of any Wall, Key or Wharf, as bounds the River of Thames, from Tower-Wloarf to London-Bridge, and from London Bridge to the Temple-Stairs; (2) nor any Houfe, Out-Houfe or other Buildings (Cranes only excepted) be built or erefted within the Diftance of threefcore and ten Foot of the middle of any Part of the Common Sewers, commonly called or known by the Names of Bridewell-Dock, Fleet-Ditch and Turnmill- Brook, from the River of Thames to Clerkenvjelly. upon either Side of them ; before the four and twentieth Day of March y, which fhall be in the Year of ouf Lord one thoufand fix hundred fixty-eight. 4^ XXXVLAnd' Bxchange.
