That there fhould be charged, raifed, levied and paid unto his Majefty, his Heirs and Succeffors, the feveral Rates and Duties upon Houfes, Windo.ws or Lights, in the faid AcSt mentioned ; and divers Provifions v/ere made, and Directions given by the faid Aft, tor the affeffing, rai- fing, colleiJting, levying and paying of the feveral Rates and Duties thereby granted : And whereas- Doubts have arifen concerning the Conftruiftion of the faid Adt ; and the Provifions made thereby for the affeffing, charging, raifing and paying of the faid Rates and Duties have proved ineft'eftual to anfwer the Purposes intended by the laid A6t ; and the Times appointed by the faid Aft for hearing and determining of Appeals have been found to be inconvenient:' Therefore, for the obviating and removing of all Doubts, and to the end that the faid Rates and Duties may for the future be rated, afteffed and raifed in one uniform and equal Manner throughout Great Britain ; Be it enatled by the King's moft Excellent Ma- 3 jefty.
