FI E RE A S there has not been any authentick or authorized Valuation of the Shire of Argyll ex- tant at any Time fince the late happy Revolution, in the Year of our Lord one thoufand fix hun- dred eighty-eight, and for want thereof it was provided by the fixth AQ. of the Parliament of Scotland,

' their Alajtjlies ; That the Shire of Argyll fhould pay their Proportion of that Supply, and in Timecoming, ' according as the faid Shire did pay before the Year one thoufand fix hundred and eighty-four, until there ' be a new Valuation : And whereas fuch new Valuation has never hitherto been made or authorized :' Now for remedying the Inconveniencies arifing from the want of an authentick Roll of Valuation for the Shire o^ Argyll, according to which the eftabliihcd Proportion of Ccfs, payable by the faid Shire, may be levied •and colle£led from the feveral Heretors, Proprietors and Occupiers of Lands, lying v/ithin the fame, in the fame Manner, and with the like Eafe, Certainty and Regularity, as is praftifed in other Shires, within that Part of Great Brltam called Scotland ; Be it enacted by the King's moil Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament afieni- Cotnm-ffioners bled, and by the Authority of the fame. IV. Provided always, and it is hereby further ena£ted. That none of the Commiffioners aforefaid, fliall aft as fuch, uniil they fiiall have qualified thcmfeh-es, by taking the Oaths appointed by I^aw to be taken by Perfons in Offices of pubiick Trufi; in Scotland, either in the Sheriff's Court, held for the faid Shire, or any other Court of Law appointed for that Purpofe.
