C. 1 S^. 197 before defcribed, were at'difi'crent Times put up to Sale in purfuance of, and according to the Direilions of the before-recited Adi of the Fifteenth of King Charles the Second, and of one other A<if paficd in & loCar. z, the twentieth Year of the faid King, intituled, An A^^ for Taxing and AJfcJJing the Lands of the Adventurers in the Great Level of the Fens, in order to raile the Taxes and Fer.alties in Arrear for and in refpedt of the faid Lands ; but the fame not being thought worth the Taxes and Penalties due thereon, fuch Lands co;i!d not be fold fo as to raife fuch Penalties and Taxes ; and the faid Governor, Bailifi^s and Confervators, ha- ing dire£led their Officers, from time to time, to bid for fuch Lands as could not be fold for the Amount of the Taxes and Penalties refpedtively due thereon, they the faid Officers became the Purchafers of fuch Lands, and have either conveyed the fame to the faid Governor, Bailiffs and Commonalty, or declared fuch Purchafes to have been made in Trufl for the faid Corporation ; and the Lands fo purchafed have re- mained vefted in the faid Corporation, and are called Invcfted Lands^ and have been annually rated and af- fefTed to the Taxes laid upon the faid ninety-five thoufand Acres, according to the refpedlive Proportions in purfuance of the faid A(fts of the fifteenth and twentieth Years of the Reign of King Charles the Second ; but fuch Taxes not having been raifed or paid, the faid Corporation have, from time to time, let fuch inverted Lands, or fuch Parts of them as they could find Tenants for, at fuch Rents as could be pro- cured for the fame ; but the Profits arifing from the Lands fo let, have been very fmall and inconfiderable, and much lefs than the Taxes with which fuch Lands have been aflefTed : And whereas it will be for the Benefit of the faid Corporation, that the faid inverted Lands fhould be fold for the beft Price that can be gotten for the fame, difcharged of all Arrears of Taxes aflefied or to be aflefi'ed thereon, before the faid Lands fhall be fold by virtue of the faid Ads of the fifteenth and twentieth Years of King Charles the Second, but fubjedl neverthelcfs in like Manner as the rert of the faid ninety-five thoufand Acres, to the Taxes to be affefled by virtue of the faid Acts, after the faid Lands fhall be fo fold ; and that in the mean Time, and until fuch Lands can be fold, the faid Corporation fhould be enabled to pay the Rates and Taxes to be afl'efled by virtue of this A6f, upon the faid Lands, for draining the fame ;' Be ic therefore The Corpora- further enadted by the Authority aforefaid.
