Brethren, I remember long ago at school how the Professor, then Monsignor, now Cardinal Satolli — the Professor, I say, was wont to preface his every lecture with a simple invocation — a single Hail Mary. When asked why he never chose a longer or better prayer he replied that he knew none better or more appropriate. " For," said he, " as Mary, after the annunciation of the Angel Gabriel, conceived and bore the Saviour of mankind, so I pray that God may give me the eloquence of an angel to announce to you the word of God, that your souls may conceive of the Holy Ghost and bring forth salvation unto many."
