H. A. JAYNES received his B.S. degree in entomology at the University of Connecticut in 1922 and M.S. at Louisiana State University in 1934. He entered the U.S. Bureau of Entomology in 1922, working on biological control of insects. In this work he spent 3 years in the Orient and 4 years in South America in search of parasites. Since 1946 his work has been on the biology and ecology of forest insects. He is stationed at the Forest Insect and Disease Laboratory of the Northeastern Forest Experiment Station, New Haven, Conn.
