The upper parts of the C, G. and S are "set in" ¼ U. The outline of the C, if continued as indicated by the dotted lines, would be the same as that of the O. The lower curve is "sprung out" to touch the line which determines the width of the letter.
The S is usually considered the most difficult letter of the alphabet. The method illustrated in Figure 10 reduces the drawing of that letter to its simplest elements.
