Portuguese India consists of Goa, containing the capital, Panjin, on the Malabar coast ; Daniao, on the coast about 100 miles north of P>ombay ; and Diu, a small island about 140 miles west of Damao. In Goa there are 501 saltworks emjdoying 1,968 men, the annual production amounting to about 12,200 tons. In Damao there are 11 salt works, and in Diu 5.
