Here, then, everybody as well as every- thing was happy, and I also partook of the same feeling. And I asked myself, why are we not always happy? Shall I tell you the reason? Because of sin. Sin mars or spoils all our pleasure. How does it come that sin is in the world? Who first sinned? We are told by Eve that the serpent Satan beguiled her, and she did eat, or sin; and Adam, the father of us all, says that the woman Eve, whom God had given him, gave unto him and he did eat, or sin; and so we, their children, each one of us possess sinful natures and partake of the fall.
