From time to time they saw the waymarks which the King's Son had set up along the road, and in several places they saw foot-prints which they knew to be those of the King's Son. This road led straight through the country, over hill and plain, through valley and forest. It was narrow, and on some parts thorn-bushes, which grew thickly along the side of it, almost met, and seemed to close the way; but a little care put them aside, and then on they went.
