and the superb terrace along which runs the Boulevard de la République. The terrace is supported by a series of graceful arches; inclined roadways lead up from the quai level to the streets above. It is the syndicate also that owns that long row of handsome uniform structures, which, occupied as hotels, apartments, offices, and shops, give to the face of Algiers features so regular and modern. Beyond all this upon the eastern hills far to the left are the
