310 And Jove[1] supreme reclin'd, unsleeping on his Bed.

At length the Saffron-vested Morning shin'd,
To Gods and Men diffusing orient Light;
Saturnian Jove weigh'd in his prudent Mind
The various Fortunes of the future sight:
315 Events important! from his awful Throne,
His Purpose wise, the Thund'rer thus reveal'd.
Fly Hermes, heavenly Herald Maia's Son,
And particolour'd Iris, airy-heel'd.
