Campbell Bannermann), 1892-95; Secretary to the Governor-General of Canada, 1896-97; Secretary for Scotland and sometimes Keeper of Government Seal of the Principality of Scotland, 1905; Vice-President of the Committee of Council of Education in Scotland; unsuccessfully contested for Aier District, 1886; represented Dumbartonshire, 1892-93, when he was defeated; and for Perforshire, 1837-1909; m. Lady Marjorie Adilne Garden, d. of 7th Earl of Aberdeen; again Secretary for Scotland; Governor of Madras, 1912; assumed charge of office, 30th Oct. 1912. Address; Government House, Madras, India.

Perlera, Hon’ble J. C. Walter, K. C; Bar-at-Law and Advocate, Ceylon; called to Bar (Middle Temple), 1887; admitted as Advocate of the Madras High Court, 1901; Member, Royal Asiatic Society, Ceylon; Member, Legislative Council, Ceylon; acting Senior Puisne Judge, Supreme Court, Ceylon. Perry, Hon’ble Sir Allan, Kt. (1904), M.B., L.S.A., M.R.C.S., D.Ph., M.D., Principal Civil Medical Officer, Ceylon; y. surviving s. of late Iza Perry of Chatham; b. 1860; educ: at London Hosptal Medical College; joined service in the Army Medical Department, 1885; Principal Civil Medical Officer, and Inspector-General of Hospitals, Ceylon; retired, 1897; Representative Knight Bachelor for Ceylon and a Knight of the Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in England. Address: Colombo, Ceylon. Crofts, Fleet, Hants. Club: United Service.

Pestonji Jehangir, Khan Bahadur (1887), C.I.E. (1882); b. 1831; belongs to a family which was honored by the Moghul Emperors with the grant of Jagirs in Surat and the Titles of “Nekshant Khan” and “Iabyar Khan”; the family is described by Sir John Malcolm as the “Khan’s of the Empire”. Petheram, Sir William Comer, Kt., (1884), K.C., I.C.S. (retired); b. 1835; s. of William Petheram of Pinhoe, Exeter; m. Isabel, d. of Sir W. Congreve, 1863; qualified himself as Special Pleader, 1862; called to Bar (Middle Temple), 1869; Q.C. 1880; joined service in India as Chief Judge of the Chief Court of N.W.P., 1884; Chief Justice of Bengal, 1886; retired, 1896; late Vice-Chancellor of the Calcutta University. Petit, Bomanji-Dinshaw, Director, Bank of Bombay; b. 1859; s. of late Sir Dinshaw Manockji Petit; educ: St. Xavier’s College, Bombay; joined business, 1878; Director of many large Commercial concerns; took an active part in getting the New Factory Act passed; his donations to charity amount to more than 10 lakhs; built a Library and Public Hall at Mahableshwar at a cost of Rs. 25,000
