Sivaswami Ayyer, Hon’ble Pazhamarneri Sundram Ayyer, B.A., B.L., C.S.I., C.I.E. (1908), Member of Council, Madras; 2nd s. of Mr. Sundaram Ayyer, Pleader, Tanjore; b. 1864; educ: S.P.G. College, Tanjore,the Government College, Kumbakonam, and the Presidency College, Madras; passed B.A. as 2nd in the 1st class, 1882: stood 1st in Sanskrit and obtained the Goda Vari Sanskrit Prize, the Gordon Prize in History, etc.; B.L., (heading the list), 1884; enrolled as Vakil of the High Court, 1885; Sanskrit Examiner to the University of Madras, 1887-88; Assistant Professor, Madras Law College, 1893-99; Examiner for the B.L., 1898-99; Fellow, Madras University, 1898; elected to represent the University in the Madras Legislative Council, 1904; became the 1st Indian to represent the University in the Madras Legislative Council; was re-elected unopposed, 1906; Offg. Advocate-General, 1907; confirmed, 1908; presided at the Tanjore District Conference, 1907; had a large share of work in the shaping of the Madras Estates Land Bill, etc.; was joint Editor of the Madras Law Journal, 1893-1907; appointed to the Council of the Governor of .Madras, 1912.
