CHAPTER V

FAITH AND SUPERSTITION

There are many things attributed to faith or said to be of faith which are not faith nor do they resemble it. For the worst time has come, a time in which people know so little about faith that they hold Christian faith to be a heresy,Sectarianism and Confusion of Issues while heresies they often parade around as faith. And this is the great division of the people today; there are two parties which anathematize one another.1 The straying away from faith has long since become a great movement, and the people is so much steeped in errors that it accepts dead, erroneous, and man-made customs introduced as faith. And it is so ignorant that true faith appears to it as a foul heresy. Battles and disputes, murders, arson and many other evils these are the sins which the people has brought upon itself. And evil men became all the more hardened with a deep hatred against the true faith. For this reason they now recognize faith with difficulty, as it has been all befouled by heresies and animosities and ignominies committed in her name.

It is necessary to maintain the sense of ancient wise
