unto them. ⁹And Pilate answered them, and said: Wil you that I release to you the King of the Jewes? ¹⁰For he knew that the cheefe Priests for envy had delivered him. ¹¹But the ″ cheefe Priests moved the People, that he should release Barabbas rather to them. ¹²And Pilate againe answering, said to them: What wil you then that I doe to the King of the Jewes? ¹³But they againe cried: Crucifie him. ¹⁴And Pilate saith to them: Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried the more: Crucifie him. ¹⁵And Pilate willing ″ to satisfie the People, released to them Barabbas, and delivered Jesus, having whipped him, for to be crucified.

¹⁶And *Jo. 19, 2. the souldiars led him into the court of the Palace, and they cal togeather the whole band: ¹⁷and they clothe him in purple, and platting a crowne of thornes, they put it upon him. ¹⁸And they began to salute him: Haile King of the Jewes. ¹⁹And they smote his head with a reed: and they did spit on him. ²⁴And crucifying him, they devided his garments, casting lots upon them, who should take which. ²⁵And it was the third houre, and they crucified him. ²⁶And the title of his cause was superscribed, King of the jewes. ²⁷And with him they crucifie two theeves; one on the right hand, and an other on his left. ²⁸And the Scripture was fulfilled that saith: And with the wicked he was reputed.Esa. 53, 12. ²⁹And they that passed by, blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying: Vah, `thou that destroyest‘he that destroyeth’ the temple, and in three dayes `buildest‘buildeth’ it: ^{30 [1]} save thy self, comming downe from the crosse. ³¹In like manner also the cheefe Priests mocking said with the Scribes one to an other: He saved others, himself he can not save. ³²Let Christ the King of Israel come downe now from the crosse that we may see and beleeve. And they that were crucified with him, railed at him.

³³And when it was the sixt houre, there was made darknes upon the whole earth until the ninth houre. ³⁴And at the ninth houre Jesus cried out with a mightie voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lamma-sabacthani?Ps. 21, 1. Which is being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou ^[2] forsaken me? ³⁵And certaine of the standers about hearing, said: Behold, he calleth Elias. ³⁶And one running and filling a spunge with vinegre, and putting it about a reed, gave him drinke, saying: Let be, let us see if Elias come to take him downe. ³⁷And Jesus putting forth a mightie voice, gave up the ghost. ³⁸And the vele of the temple was rent in two, from the top to the bottome. ³⁹And the Centurion that stood over against him, seeing that so crying he had given up the ghost, said: In deed this man was the Sonne of God.
